French Gangsters Use Telegram for Contract Killings
The outlet detailed that clients liaise with a coordinator via the application, who then relays the intended target's details and arranges weaponry for the hired killer.
One recent incident reportedly connected to this network is the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man in eastern France this past April, as reported by the news outlet on Friday.
The victim, Abdel-Hakim B., was shot in the head three times.
Shockingly, the brutal act was live-streamed on the social media platform Snapchat prior to the arrival of first responders.
Both Abdel-Hakim B. and the suspected perpetrator were allegedly enlisted through Telegram to be involved in regional drug trafficking activities, the news outlet stated.
Abdel-Hakim B., who was studying computer science and had no prior criminal record, is believed to have responded to an internet advertisement a day before his death.
The post promised EURO220 (equivalent to USD260) daily for overseeing a narcotics distribution location.
Investigators were able to pinpoint the alleged shooter, 18-year-old Mohamed G., within eight days through a combination of surveillance video and digital evidence.
He reportedly took a high-speed train from Paris to Lyon and used a taxi to reach the location of the crime.
Law enforcement later apprehended Mohamed G. at his family’s residence, where the attire worn during the murder was recovered.
A woman suspected of arranging his transportation and logistics was also detained and charged.
Although she denies being aware that she was facilitating a homicide, officials revealed she received EURO700 for her role, while the total payment for the assassination amounted to EURO2,500.
