France Blasts Threats Made Against IAEA Head

(MENAFN) On Monday, France sharply condemned the threats made against Rafael Grossi, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), reaffirming its unwavering support for both the agency and its leadership.

In an official statement, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its strong condemnation of the threats targeting Grossi and underscored France’s "full support for the Agency and its Director General in the implementation of its mandate in an independent and impartial manner."

The statement also voiced grave concerns regarding potential efforts to undermine Iran’s cooperation with the UN nuclear body.

"France expresses its great concern over any undermining of Iran's cooperation with the IAEA. It calls on the Iranian authorities to fully, immediately and unconditionally fulfill their international obligations under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement," it noted.

Additionally, the ministry reminded Tehran of its obligation to ensure the safety and security of IAEA personnel within its borders.

“France recalls the responsibility of the Iranian government to ensure the safety and security of the Agency’s staff in Iran,” the statement said.

Paris also reiterated its commitment to securing a “robust, lasting and verifiable negotiated solution” to address the growing concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear program.

This strong condemnation from France follows a series of escalations, including the recent US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, Iran’s decision to bar Grossi from entering the country, and Iran’s parliament passing a bill halting its cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog.
